Veronica Fusaro 'Sunkissed' EP out today October 4th
Swiss singer-songwriter Veronica Fusaro released her ‘Sunkissed’ EP today October 4th 2019. ‘Sunkissed’ is the third EP from the 22-year old and is proving the perfect antidote to the cold and miserable weather that has enveloped RGM towers. If you’re looking for a selection of uplifting material that harks back to balmier times then Veronica has you covered. You can catch Veronica live at London’s Paper Dress Vintage on 15th October. More about Veronica, the show and the EP follows:
Long winters are bad for the soul. The clouds don’t just blacken the sky, they can also darken the spirit. However, with her brand new EP, ‘Sunkissed’, singer-songwriter Veronica Fusaro steers us away from any such feelings of torpor.
‘Lie To Me’, which was released as the first single from the EP in the early summer, sets the tone. “It‘s cold outside, the world is full of lies. Why don’t you stay a little longer, have another drink? Just talk to me, tell me anything you want. Our world here in this room is much too beautiful to worry if your stories are true.” A little like this, albeit with a far greater degree of lyrical and musical panache, the song described an hour of happiness in which time seemed to stand still. Fusaro knows that she cannot stop the flow of the seasons. However, she is also aware that the magic of a special moment makes it possible to forget about the clock….at least for the duration of a beautiful song.
A sense of transience and the often temporary nature of our feelings – these are the themes that link all five songs on the EP. ‘Rollercoaster’ celebrates the joys of topsy-turvy love to an early Motown beat, while ‘Run My Mind’ is a musical car journey through the North American prairies accompanied by a delicious whiff of fear that feelings for the driver might yet grow into something much too much. ‘Hello Old Friend’ is the story of a reunion where the courage to turn thoughts into deeds can’t be mustered, and ‘All I Ever Wanted’ also recalls a past love and the revelation that certain words can only be said through music.
“The EP is like a novella,” says the 22-year old Fusaro. “The songs are all connected but they are designed to conjure a mood rather than tell a story with a beginning and an end. I want to hold on to the sunny moments for as long as possible because I know that each summer evening could be the last before the weather turns cold again.”
‘Lie To Me’ was recorded with producer Jamie Ellis. For the other songs Fusaro worked with Paul O’Duffy in his London studio. In his early days, O’Duffy acted as engineer on various Marvin Gaye sessions before producing albums by Swing Out Sister, Was (Not Was), Amy Winehouse and many more. Together, they gave the songs Fusaro had brought over from her own studio in Switzerland a final polish. Sophisticated and soulful, the results of their collaboration have a hint of Dusty Springfield about them, although the elegant melodies and subtly dynamic rhythms reflect a nostalgia-free vision that is entirely Fusaro’s own.

Following ‘Lost in Thought’ (2016) and ‘ICE COLD’ (2018), ‘Sunkissed’ is Fusaro’s third EP. An album is promised, but there is no rush. The balmy glow of ‘Sunkissed’ is warm enough in the meantime to melt away the iciest of winter blues.
