Discovering new music is always exciting so we urge you to take a moment and check out the selection of recent news. Your next favourite artist might be just one click away.
Bruce Springsteen has a new album set for release June 14th via Columbia Records. ‘Western Stars’ according to the man himself is heavily influenced by the classic Southern Californian pop of the ‘60s and ‘70s. One listen to the rather lovely ‘Everybody’s Talkin'’ vibe of first single ‘Hello Sunshine’ and we’re on board with this. Amazingly this is Springsteen’s first studio album in five long years but to be fair to the usually profilic Springsteen he’s been kinda busy with a 236 show run on Broadway so we’ll cut him some slack. Vinyl fans/Springsteen completists might went to track down the new album on blue wax from selected stockists.
June 28th is the date for a new album release by Jade Jackson via ANTI- records. Regular RGM readers should remember Jade as we featured her debut album ‘Gilded’ back in 2017. For her sophomore album release, ‘Wilderness’ Mike Ness (Social Distortion) is again behind the desk. Songs wise 'Wilderness' looks to be much more personal in nature as Jade deals with her own life experiences. First single ‘Bottle It Up’ is a nice rootsy rocker that wouldn’t have been out of place on a Springsteen album so we've an unexpected sense of continuity there.
An upcoming album that has been on heavy rotation recently in the RGM office is the debut by The Alvarez Theory. The London based quintet features the voice and songs of German/Spanish born songwriter Diana Diehl and started out as a solo project but works beautifully in a full band configuration. With fiddle, guitar and mandolin to the fore The Alverez Theory sound is haunting, moody and intimate but with moments of widescreen, cinematic grandeur in their tales of small-town heroes, barflies and gunslingers. The album release date is May 24th and you can catch the band that night at London’s Green Note for the album launch.
UK singer-songwriter Steve Hewitt will release his debut album ‘Bigger Than Words’ via the Engineer label on June 17th (Digital release June 3rd). The Kent-based songwriter has put together an album that blends elements of folk, country, blues and pop with impressive results expanding on the acoustic heart of the songs with deftly placed additional instrumentation. Check out the lyric video for ‘Healing & Hurt’.
Steve Hewitt concludes our delve into the RGM inbox for today but we’ll be back soon with loads more cool sounds. You can also find Red Guitar Music on Facebook and Twitter so please feel free to follow, like, share etc.
