The RGM Inbox April 2020
Welcome to the latest, long overdue, delve into the RGM Inbox. As usual, we’ve been inundated with a host of musical pleasures and with many of us following the rules on self-isolation this seems like an ideal time to check out some great new music. So please join us on this latest voyage of musical discovery.
Dublin born Lisa Lambe is already making waves in her native Ireland and in the USA. This is hardly surprising based on her recent single release ‘Dust and Sand’ a broody beast of a tune that builds to a strikingly anthemic conclusion. The track is taken from her second album ‘Juniper’ which was released April 3rd stateside on the Blue Elan label. Hopefully, Lisa will be promoting the UK release of the album with live dates later this year. In the meantime, if you’ve yet to discover Lisa Lambe check out the video for ‘Dust and Sand’ I’m pretty sure you’ll be glad you did.
I was also rather taken with the new single from Hannah Grace ‘Wasted Love’. This hauntingly atmospheric track features a terrific vocal full of understated emotion. ‘Wasted Love’ shows another side of Hannah and is set to build on the success of ‘Blue’ which proved to be very popular on Radio 2 earlier this year. Hopefully, if the world returns to something near normality Hannah Grace has shows booked for later this year including Omeara, London on October 29th.
Swedish husband and wife duo Karin Thyr and Goran Eriksson have been visiting East Nashville for some years now. Upping sticks in the summer and taking the kids to Tennessee for what effectively sounds like a working holiday. The fruits of their labour are now available as ‘Nashville Songs & Stories’ an impressive set they call Swedicana with a knowing smile. Recent single ‘Witchcraft’ is a nice uptempo introduction to the duo while album opener ‘Fighting Another Day’ highlights their lovely vocal harmonies. Country music fans should definitely check out Thyra.
April 17th sees the release of the debut album by Gary Burk III fittingly titled ‘Show Em’ What You Got’ via MTS records. Hailing from Western Pennsylvania Gary does a fine job on this seven track set as he mixes the hard-rockin' party tune vibe of ‘Friday Night’ with the romantic positivity of ‘Like That’ (the later one of two tracks produced by Eric Gunderson of Love & Theft fame). Needless to say, a dash of positivity should go a long way in these troubled times.
And so we conclude our latest visit to the RGM inbox. Times are tough out there for everybody but hopefully, a good tune will always help to improve our mood as we deal with illness and isolation. Until next time, stay safe and please follow the government guidelines in your territory.
