The Vinyl Inbox
With the resurgence in vinyl sales in recent years, the humble record is back and seemingly here to stay. With this in mind, RGM takes a look at some recent and upcoming releases for those who love the sound or possibly just need the images to be bigger as we’re getting older and a CD sized booklet presents a problem. Please read on for releases by Downes Braide Association, Ali Maas & Micky Moody and League Of Lights.
Released earlier this year the fourth studio album from Geoff Downes and Chris Braide aka DBA is a fantastic record that effortlessly bridges the divide between pop and prog and the RGM review is available here. Needless to say, Halcyon Hymns is a perfect fit for vinyl and is now available as a 2LP White Vinyl pressing so that all DBA fans can not only enjoy the music but appreciate the Roger Dean artwork as it was intended. The 2LP set is available March 26th, 2021 via https://downesbraide.co.uk/
Next up we have the second album from Ali Maas and Micky Moody ‘Who’s Directing Your Movie?’ which was originally released in 2020 and now sees a belated, but very welcome, vinyl release on March 26th, 2021. The album has been cut at half speed and is pressed on a rather fetching turquoise 180-gram vinyl. This is the second album from the husband and wife duo. Micky Moody has a very impressive CV that includes Juicy Lucy, Whitesnake, Snakecharmer and many more while Ali was in McQueen and has a weekly show, Black Cat Trails on TotalRock Radio. I’m sure fans will need no introduction to the duo but if a record that includes Americana and blues influences sounds up your street this is well worth investigation.
The album is released on Last Man Music and available via Music Glue
Last but not least the latest album from League Of Lights ‘Dreamers Don’t Come Down’ will arrive on vinyl on the 23rd April 2021 via Plane Groovy and is available in standard black and as a limited edition purple variant (both 180g) with a signed insert from the Burning Shed store. If you’re not familiar with League Of Lights then please check out the RGM review and their recent single ‘The Collector’. You’ll be glad you did.
