The RGM Inbox: July 2021
Welcome to the latest edition of the RGM Inbox, an occasional feature where we shine a light on a quartet of artists worthy of your time. Some names you might know, some you might not, but either way, it’ll all be good.
Steven Fiore isn’t a name that’s anywhere near as well known as it should be. Over the last five years the singer-songwriter has released a trio of impressive albums under the Young Mister banner. Previous to this Steven was on the books of Universal Music Group Publishing in Los Angeles writing with Ryan Cabrera, Art Garfunkel and (a personal favourite) Howie Day. A pretty good CV to be sure, so please join 17 million Spotify listeners who’ve already discovered Steven or why not check out his latest single ‘Still Young’ co written with Izaac Burkhart from the Dan + Shay band.
While we’re in singer-songwriter territory lets check out this excellent collaboration between Christopher Mansfield (aka FENCES) and singer, songwriter and musician Billy Strings who picked up the ‘Best Bluegrass Album’ award at last year’s Grammys. The duo tracked the song live, with the exception of an odd overdub, despite the logistical problems of being on opposite sides of the USA. The resulting track ‘Globe’ is as good an example of a long distance collaboration as you’re likely to find.

Some bands are just cool. Falling into that category are Flight Club from Richmond, VA who’ll release their debut album Until The Sun Drowns on July 30th via Open Your Ears Records. As a taster for the record the guys hit the roller rink and pulled together the latest in a string of cinematic videos for the infectious ‘High Roller’ that found the quartet busting a few moves. The combination of a charismatic singer, cleverly constructed guitar lines and a bass player in a salmon pink suit is gonna be hard to beat.
Completing our quartet we return to the UK and Rosenblume. The Liverpool singer/songwriter will release his self-titled debut album September 24th 2021 and ‘Knight In Shining Armour’ is the first single. Rosenblume first made waves with an EP back in 2015 playing a string of shows supporting the likes of Jack Savoretti, Luke Sital-Singh and Robert Vincent and a slew of festivals including Glastonbury. Unsurprisingly things have been a little quieter in recent times as Rosenblume has beavered away on his album with producer Alec Brits. Influenced by The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Drifters, Sam Cooke, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young, James Taylor & Carole King etc. via his dad’s cassette tape collection Rosenblume had a good grounding in the greats growing up, while Glen Hansard often gets a mention by way of comparison in reviews (never a bad thing). Check out the video for ‘Knight In Shining Armour’ and I’m sure you’ll be adding Rosenblume to your must hear more list.
