What's new on vinyl - February 2023

In this occasional feature, RGM looks a look at a quartet of recent/upcoming releases on the good old LP. The vinyl resurgence continues to gather pace with artists and labels embracing technology that had been thought dead and buried nearly forty years ago. Personally, I own plenty of CDs and LPs and enjoy both, but I’ll readily admit there’s still something special about holding a record in your hands. The experience of sitting, listening and then getting up to flip over to side two feels right and, dare I say, comforting. I also seem to concentrate on the music more intently. Is it just me? With all this in mind, let’s check out an LP or four.

In the latest inbox feature, we’ve got a range of international talent for your perusal. From Canada, Terra Lightfoot returns with a new single and an album on the way while closer to home UK pedal steel legend BJ Cole is sharing his love of Hawaiian music. Speaking of sunnier climates (although High Wycombe would give Hawaii a run for its money in the heat stakes this week) we’ve got a London based Aussie in Nick Kingswell with a terrific single and also from Australia The Buckleys a sibling trio breaking out of their homeland with a nice line in pop-country.

Steve Hackett - 'The Night Siren' due March 24th + tour dates

Steve Hackett will release his new album ' The Night Siren' via InsideOut Music (Sony) on March 24th. This new album from the ex Genesis guitarist is a celebration of multicultural diversity and unity which is to be applauded in these dark times. Following the release of the album Steve will embark on a 15 night UK tour under the Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett banner. The tour dates, much more about Steve and 'The Night Siren' including the first single 'In The Skeleton Gallery' follows:

Cambridge Folk Festival expands city-wide with City Roots February 2017

In February of 2017 the Cambridge Folk Festival will expand throughout the city with a new initiative that will see 'City Roots' bring folk and roots artists to a range of venues in the city. As is usual with Cambridge Folk Festival the artists listed to appear are an ecletic bunch that includes Salif Keita and Transatlantic Sessions featuring Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas and a host of impressive players.
