Connor Selby has enjoyed a terrific 2023 and 2024 looks to be shaping up equally well. The on-the-rise blues singer and guitarist is set to open for Joanne Shaw Taylor on a run of shows through the Netherlands and the UK in February 2024. Connor continues to support his self-titled album voted a Top 10 Blues Album of the Year by Mojo Magazine. More about Connor Selby and Joanne Shaw Taylor follows:
The young troubadour has had an incredible 12 months - A Mojo Magazine Top 10 Blues Album of the Year, ‘Conner Selby’ was released in March this year. He has gone on tour with blues legend Robert Cray , opened for powerhouse singer Beth Hart on her March UK tour – including playing the London Palladium, and he was the only artist to support the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band on his April' Trouble Is' 25th Anniversary UK tour as well as touring with Graham Parker, playing shows with soul Icon P.P. Arnold and he performed at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. He has also performed at BST Hyde Park, London, on a bill with Pearl Jam, Stereophonics and Johnny Marr and supported The Who at Wembley Stadium.
Connor Selby (Deluxe Edition) was released in March via Provogue, featuring the songs, "I Shouldn't Care," "Love Letter to the Blues," "The Deep End", and the Ray Charles cover of "My Baby Don't Dig Me" – he has picked up the support of Classic Rock magazine, graced the cover of Blues in Britain, picked up a raft of critical praise for the album and been spun on numerous radio stations including the BBC Radio 2 Blues Show.
There's a timeless melancholic quality to his music. Relatable in its honesty and openness, he draws from anxiety and vulnerability but delivers it with a world-worn elegance. It's easy to see why with his soulful blend of blues and emotionally introspective songwriting, alongside his impressive armoury of guitar playing. The songs on 'Connor Selby' are little vignettes of the different styles of music that inspire him.
Joanne Shaw Taylor will perform songs from her recent critically acclaimed albums “Nobody’s Fool,” and The Blues Album which topped Billboard Magazine’s Official Blues Album Chart. She will also perform new songs from her forthcoming album including “Sweet ‘Lil Lies,” “Black Magic,” and “Wild Love.”
The Blues Album was voted #1 Most Played Blues Album of 2021 by the Independent Blues Broadcaster’s Association. Joanne will also dig deep into her rich back catalogue where she will hand-pick songs from her albums Reckless Heart, Wild, The Dirty Truth, Almost Always Never, Diamonds in the Dirt, and White Sugar.
Her latest single “Wild Love,” is crafted alongside Kevin Shirley, the iconic producer, at the legendary RCA Studio A in Nashville. The song is brimming with bluesy undertones and an infectious energy. The track showcases Joanne's signature guitar licks against a backdrop of dynamic drums and bass. "Wild Love" is a departure into a darker, more intimate territory, capturing the essence of a moody blues night while retaining the vigour that her fans have come to adore.
