Singer-songwriter Hannah Scott embarks on an extensive UK tour tonight (Sept, 21st) at Faringdon Corn Exchange. The dates coincide with the album ‘Absence Of Doubt’ set for release on October 25th. More about Hannah Scott follows including a full list of dates and ‘Broken Homes’ the latest single from the album.
Broken Homes is the new single from Suffolk-born, London-based contemporary Folk singer Hannah Scott. This is the second track from her forthcoming album Absence Of Doubt, due for release in October.
A step-parent to two children, Hannah navigates the complexity of family dynamics in Broken Homes. Speaking of the increasingly common experience of non-traditional gender and familial roles, Broken Homes challenges the conventional moral imperative on parents to ‘stay for the kids’, instead making the case that children should grow up in homes ‘where there is love’.
Hannah's forthcoming third studio album, Absence Of Doubt, due for release in October, marks a new chapter in Hannah's career as she co-produced it with acclaimed engineer/producer Adrian Hall (known for his work with Tori Amos and Anna Calvi). The album features an impressive line-up of musicians, including Geoff Holroyd (Feeder) on drums, Matt Aston (Lucy Spraggan) on bass and guitarist George Boomsma (Katherine Priddy). Hannah recorded the piano parts at home on her upright Yamaha U3 and the vocals were recorded in her wardrobe! The album encapsulates the very best and very worst of human emotions, including love, parenthood, and grief. Despite everything, the songs embody an unwavering yearning for life, even in its darkest moments.
The best stories elicit profound personal reactions, and in the 15 years she has been writing and performing, Hannah has become a consummate storyteller. Her music is shaped by human stories, with family, in all its chaos and glory, sitting at the heart of her work. Her lyrics are powerful, poignant, and passionate, and her voice feels strangely familiar, though you can't quite pinpoint why. Her writing may be deeply personal, but her music has a universal appeal that extends beyond the melodies you catch yourself humming days after listening to her songs.
Hannah's career has been marked by notable achievements, including having her song No Gravity featured on the popular TV series Grey's Anatomy. She recorded a live session on BBC Radio 2 with Dermot O'Leary and opened for Madeleine Peyroux. Her talent has led her to share the stage with folk luminaries like Seth Lakeman, Cara Dillon, and Fairport Convention and perform at renowned festivals such as Cambridge, Sidmouth, and Manchester Folk. Whether in large venues or intimate spaces, Hannah thrives on the connection with her audience, cherishing the moments she can look them in the eye and speak with them after the show.
