Black Sabbath announce 'Supersonic Years' 7" Ltd Ed Vinyl Box Set

Black Sabbath return to the vinyl fray with a new limited edition 7" singles box set due June 8th. The new box looks like the ideal companion to last years gargantuan 'Ten Year War' offering as 'Supersonic Years' brings together the legendary metal acts 70's single releases. The set includes five rare single edits and the ten picture sleeves are a mix of hard to find worldwide reproductions and others exclusive to this set. Airrace preview 'Untold Stories' with a little 'Summer Rain'

UK AOR/Melodic rock act Airrace are back with a new single 'Summer Rain' which is a pleasing antidote to the British weather as I type. The new single is a slight change of direction for the band as it exhibits a soulful charm that was unexpected but welcome. The band have a new album 'Untold Stories' in the can for an August release (10.08.18) with tour dates set for September. Well, it's that time again. March is behind us and we're now in April but March was another strong month musically. We had a stunning release from the legendary Joan Baez and Bennett Wilson Poole demonstrated that the UK was up to the task of presenting Americana with an English twist and plenty of 12 string Rickenbacker guitar. The UK was also represented in the field of melodic rock/AOR by FM who continue to release quality records 30+ years into their career. The UK country scene is again featured in our playlist courtesy of Holloway Road who go from strength to strength while Greece is featured for the first time via Gadless and his excellent 'Falling' single. There's plenty of musical variety this month so please don't be shy and give our playlist a go to discover some great new music.

Here at RGM we're not opposed to listening to things of a heavier nature musically, but it must have plenty of melody. Praying Mantis have managed to tread the fine line between silk and steel for over forty years. In 2015 they released the excellent 'Legacy' and they're back in 2018 with new album 'Gravity' set for May 11th via Frontiers. Frontiers Music presents The New Breed

The roots of the Italian Frontiers label can be traced back to 1996 and over the years they've expanded to become a major player in classic rock / hard rock / melodic rock / AOR circles. Previous label releases include some of the biggest names in the genre including Whitesnake, Yes, Def Leppard, Rick Springfield, Journey etc. The label recently opened offices in London and announced the first edition of 'Frontiers - New Breed Night' which will showcase three British acts recently signed to the label. The event takes place at The Black Heart in London's Camden on April 26th with Doomsday Outlaw, Dirty Thrills and The Brink turning up the volume. Torgeir Waldemar is looking back to move forward on new album.

Torgeir Waldermar came to the attention of Red Guitar Music through his terrific second 'No Offending Borders' album release back in 2017 (reviewed here). The album found the folky troubadour of his debut rockin' out in a Neil Young circa Crazy Horse vein. For 'Jamais Vu' Waldermar surprises once again as he reevaluates songs from both albums and turns them on their heads. Tracks from 'No Offending Borders' are stripped back acoustically while songs from the debut gain electric guitars and expanded arrangements. 'Jamais Vu' will be released in the UK on March 9th via Jansen Records. YES announce Official 50th Anniversary Celebrations

Iconic UK progressive rock act YES will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a host of events set to coincide with their March 2018 UK tour. The London Palladium over the weekend of March 24-25th 2018 looks like being the essential destination for the hardcore YES / prog rock fan with Prog Magazine sponsoring the YES Fan Convention. Expect to see current band members, YES alumni and Roger Dean over the weekend and I'm pleased to report that all profits from the event are going to charity which is always great to hear. Wishbone Ash announce 'The Vintage Years' a mammoth 30 CD Box Set

April 2018 will see the release of the definitive Wishbone Ash box set. 'The Vintage Years' is a strictly limited edition (2,500 copies) deluxe 30 CD set authorised by all of the original band members. The set features 16 studio albums, 3 live albums (Live Dates 1 & 2 + Live In Tokyo) and 8 previously unreleased live albums. The studio albums all feature bonus material and the box also includes a 156 page hardback book and a host of memorablia including posters and a 7" flexi disc (which is about as retro as it gets). Cheap Trick embrace the holiday season with 'Christmas Christmas' due October 20th

Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real share tracks from upcoming album

Lukas Nelson & Promise Of The Real will release their self-titled album on August 25th via Fantasy Records. Three tracks that capture a beguiling mix of country, rock and soul from the record are now available to share. When your dad is country legend Willie Nelson and you've been working with Neil Young in recent years then expectations are going to be set pretty high. Well, the good news is the three tracks are all excellent and showcase an album which sounds like it'll be very fine indeed. Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers set for BluesFest at O2 London

The annual BluesFest at the O2 in London has announced the first names for the 2017 event set for Friday 27th - Sunday 29th October 2017. Steely Dan will be performing in the UK for the first time since 2009 (It will be their only UK show in 2017) and will close the festival on Sunday night. The duo will be joined by legendary hitmakers The Doobie Brothers. More acts will be announced soon and tickets are on general sale from Friday May 12th.

Little Steven returns to the solo fray with 'Soulfire' due May 19th

Little Steven will release his first solo album in nearly twenty Years on May 19th. 'Soulfire' will find the E Street Band guitarist, actor, producer and radio show host fronting a new Disciples Of Soul for 2017. Status Quo 2CD/3CD Deluxe Editions due May 26th 2017

May 26th 2017 is the date for a set of deluxe reissues from UK rock legends Status Quo. The trio of albums getting the expanded treatment are 'Blue For You', 'Just Supposin' and 'Never Too Late'. The three releases all feature a host of demo, b-side and live material over two discs while 'Never Too Late' is expanded to a 3CD set with the further addition of a previously unreleased live show from 1981. The Magpie Salute announce debut album for June 9th

The Magpie Salute recently announced the release of their self-titled debut album for June 9th via Eagle Rock Entertainment. The Magpie Salute features Rich Robinson, Marc Ford and Sven Pipien who will need no introductions to fans of The Black Crowes. A Thousand Horses & The Cadillac Three embrace Record Store Day 2017

The highly anticipated final album from Chuck Berry due June 16th via Dualtone/Decca

Time marches on and the passing of Chuck Berry on March 18th really did feel like the end of an era. Others will take up the baton and run with it but, with so few of those early pioneers still recording, the original feel and spirit of Rock 'N' Roll may well have left the building. Thankfully, plans were already in place for the release of the final album that Chuck Berry and his family had been working on for many years. 'Chuck' will be released June 16th via Dualtone / Decca. Procol Harum celebrate 50 years with new album 'Novum' and UK tour

Status Quo - The Vinyl Singles Collection (1972-1979) Ltd Ed due March 10th

Status Quo will release the first of five limited edition vinyl box sets on March 10th. The first in the series includes all of their classic 70's singles including such gems as 'Caroline' and 'Down Down' The box also includes a download code if you prefer your Quo on the go. Kansas find 'Rhythm In The Spirit' and announce European dates

Jethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson and keyboard player John O'Hara have teamed up with The Cardussi Quartet for an album of Jethro Tull music painted in a strikingly new light.
